This new eatery opened its doors this summer, just a few steps away from Canal de l’Ourcq. With its quiet terrace and a menu favoring seasonal and local ingredients, the Passage à niveau has a lot to offer!
The restaurant is the latest project to emerge from the Ferme du Rail, “an agri-urban space open to everyone, to welcome, train and integrate the most vulnerable people on the long term”. Inaugurated last December, this urban farm was born out of the architectural call for projects “Réinventer Paris”. In the heart of the 19th arrondissement, the site includes a 15-unit shelter and social reinsertion center, as well as a residence that accommodates five students.
Le Passage à niveau intends to be “open to the neighborhood” and offer “affordable cuisine with tasty products, local suppliers and love!” The ingredients of some of its dishes are already produced on site, and the harvest should be even more abundant next spring. A guarantee of quality, the restaurant’s small but enticing menu changes according to the seasons and supports local producers.

The other advantage of this new address is its location: sheltered above the arches of the “Petite ceinture”, Paris’ disused railroad, Le Passage à niveau spreads its beautiful terrace in a quiet setting, far from the bustle of nearby Avenue Jean Jaurès and Canal de l’Ourcq. Patrons can reach the latter by following the tracks stretching right in front of the restaurant. Even parents and animal lovers have an opportunity to sip their drink at ease, relaxing between the gardens of the urban farm and the peaceful pathway above the street level.
Unsurprisingly, the new restaurant is already a big success among locals: booking a table is therefore highly recommended, preferably by SMS to the number indicated below.
